Deserts. Food deserts. Concrete deserts.
The Ayn Rand utopian paradise of contrived urban communities supported by industrial outlet box stores which we see proliferating today is unsustainable. The Walmart model has proven that box stores leave behind concrete deserts of wasted land, human labor, community unity, and public resources, all for the private profit of a few. Driving supply chain, food, fuel, clothing, shelter, items into narrower and more restrictive environments, both excluding the very poor and catering to the very rich. Food deserts which cripple health. Health deserts which kill the poor. Shelter, clothing, fuel deserts which eliminate the middle classes.
On scale nationwide erasing populations that once were forced to intermingle and learn to co-operated to survive, this devastating apartheid is crumbling the foundation of American societal structure for the profit of a few at the cost of the inevitable destruction of the many.
